Why is it called Christmas in July when halfway to Christmas is June?

I've been wondering this for a while. I don't celebrate Christmas in July but the thought has been eating me.

I think it was made in acceptable to have Christmas in July for families that have a member of ill health or are terminally ill and wont be around for the holidays. That's what I was told anyway.

Plus it's usually hot in July and the thought seems so ridiculous that it actually becomes normal to have it during summer - and henceforth why people celebrate it so early.





Personally, I like the real thing and can't wait until December.

They are clearing out their seasonal merchandise of last Christmas to make way for the new holiday things. It's just getting rid of pld inventory, it has nothing to do with downplaying the importance of Christmas. They also are getting the people who like to shop well in advance and to stimulate sales in the summer when people tend to spend less due to vacations, the heat, etc. It is still called Christmas in July, because they named those sales long before the political correctness of changing everything to "holiday". Plus there is the fourth of July holiday in the summer and people might be confused. And in December people are shopping for 3 different holidays depending upon beliefs not just Christmas.

Well, actually, it's not called "half-way-to-Christmas in July" it's just called "Christmas in July". It could be called "Christmas in October" and it still wouldn't be a contradiction.



Aside from that, wouldn't the halfway point be near the END of June or within a few days of theBEGINNING of July anyway?
