Listen to Christmas music and just do something for someone. It doesn't have to be a gift, but when you do something for someone and you see that they really appreciate it, it will change your outlook and the Christmas spirit will invigorate you!

Here have some of my christmas spirit, I have plenty to spare. What DVD's of your favourite Christmas films, you know, the ones you loved as a kid. look at all the decorations, not the shops but on peoples houses. Arrange a get together with a few friends that you don't spend nearly enough time with. Spend a bit of time pondering what is really important in your life.

I'm going back to England tomorrow and I'm going to see my mum and dad and my brother, sisters, niece and nephews and most important my children are all coming for Christmas and I am so excited. It's my daughter's 16th birthday and my parents 50th wedding anniversary as well so this year will be extra special.

So here is some of my christmas spirit for you........enjoy.

1. Deck the halls - Get out the decorations and make your place festive.

2. Christmas carols - Put on some CDs of the old traditional and new traditional (it will be, in time), and sing along. (Sing along with the carols in stores, too. Who cares if some people look at you oddly?)

3. Find perfect presents for other people.

4. Watch all the most sentimental Christmas movies and don't neglect the ones you watched when you were younger 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' and 'How The Grinch Stole Christmas'.

5. Call friends and wish them all the joys of the season.

6. Send Christmas ecards to people you haven't been in touch with for awhile.

I would really like to know that answer as well.

I've spent most of my money on gifts for other people (and a couple for myself).

I've decorated the tree, and wrapped the gifts. I keep the tree lit all day, because the corner it is in is gloomy anyway, and it looks really festive over there.

I've had to curb the excitement of my three grandsons, when they've seen the gifts continue to pile up, and they know how many are addressed to them specifically.

I've volunteered at the local food bank, to try and get a little bit of "goodwill to all men" going, but no luck.

I've bought the turkey, and all the fixings for the perogies and the other special dishes, including the apple, pumpkin and lemon pies (from scratch).

I've helped each of my daughters colour and streak their hair in preparation, and have helped them decide on final hair styles.

I've picked out my outfit, and bought all attendant accessories.

I listen to Christmas music every afternoon, after my grandsons get home from school.

I've watched umpteen Christmas specials, cartoon, movies and music.

I'm even in the process of cleaning my livingroom, dining room and kitchen VERY THOROUGHLY. Going so far as to use a steam cleaner on all surfaces to get everything squeaky clean, AND I'm all set to wax all the floors once I'm done the rest.

And I STILL can't seem to get into any sort of a Christmas spirit. I don't feel grumpy at all. I just can't seem to get EXCITED!

So, if you find a sure-fire way, can you let me know? I'd really like to enjoy this Christmas, as well.

Here's an idea, go to a retirement home and visit the residents, or go to a hospital and visit some of the older patients there. If you can bake, bake up some christmas goodies and take them to some neighbors and especially the P.D and the F.D. I took some home-made cookies to my local police dept. today as a way to say thank you for the job that they do because these men and women put their lives on the line all the time and usually don't get one bit of gratitude but instead get disrespected for doing their jobs. I am also going to take something to one of the fire stations too here.

Believe me I find it hard myself to get into the spirit sometimes but I try to by humming Christmas carols to myself or just singing them loudly in my house while cleaning or whatever, seems to help. Just getting to gether with friends for a little holiday party will do it for me too.

Forget about buying stuff for people..people don't really want you to buy them things, unless it's something they truly need.

What helps me is to think about all the people I know who've been kind to me throughout the year..think about how you could return the favor. I like to make cookies and brownies, then make the rounds and distribute them.

You don't have to go all out--just think of how you can help other people during what is supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, but can be a real nightmare.

I coach a nine and ten year old girls hockey team. We did a fund-raiser to buy toys for kids less fortunate than us.

That got us into the spirit...

We raised CDN$800.00 !!!

Oh and why not wish a Merry Christmas to people you meet, with a smile. :-)

Have some hot cocoa and hang out with your friends. Watch bad holiday movies. (My favorite is the MST3K Santa Claus Conquers the Martians.)

Wear annoying socks, and if you have snow go play outside.

True Meaning of Christmas

Just a week before Christmas I had a visitor. This is how it happened. I just finished the household chores for the night and was preparing to go to bed, when I heard a noise in the front of the house. I opened the door to the front room and to my surprise, Santa himself stepped out next to the fireplace.

"What are you doing?" I started to ask. The words choked up in my throat and I saw he had tears in his eyes. His usual jolly manner was gone. Gone was the eager, boisterous soul we all know. He then answered me with a simple statement . . .

"TEACH THE CHILDREN!" I was puzzled. What did he mean? He anticipated my question and with one quick movement brought forth a miniature toy bag from behind the tree. As I stood bewildered, Santa said, "Teach the children!

Teach them the old meaning of Christmas. The meaning that now-a-days Christmas has forgotten. "Santa then reached in his bag and pulled out a FIR TREE and placed it before the mantle. "Teach the children that the pure green color of the stately fir tree remains green all year round, depicting the everlasting hope of mankind, all the needles point heavenward, making it a symbol of man's thoughts turning toward heaven."

He again reached into his bag and pulled out a brilliant STAR. "Teach the children that the star was the heavenly sign of promises long ago. God promised a Savior for the world, and the star was the sign of fulfillment of His promise."

He then reached into his bag and pulled out a CANDLE. "Teach the children that the candle symbolizes that Christ is the light of the world, and when we see this great light we are reminded of He who displaces the darkness."

Once again he reached into his bag and removed a WREATH and placed it on the tree. "Teach the children that the wreath symbolizes the real nature of love. Real love never ceases. Love is one continuous round of affection."

He then pulled from his bag an ORNAMENT of himself. "Teach the children that I, Santa Claus, symbolize the generosity and good will we feel during the month of December."

He then brought out a HOLLY LEAF. "Teach the children that the holly plant represents immortality. It represents the crown of thorns worn by our Savior. The red holly berries represent the blood shed by Him.

Next he pulled from his bag a GIFT and said, "Teach the children that God so loved the world that he gave his begotten son." Thanks be to God for his unspeakable gift.

Santa then reached in his bag and pulled out a CANDY CANE and hung it on the tree. "Teach the children that the candy cane represents the shepherds' crook. The crook on the staff helps to bring back strayed sheep to the flock. The candy cane is the symbol that we are our brother's keeper."

He reached in again and pulled out an ANGEL. "Teach the children that it was the angels that heralded in the glorious news of the Savior's birth. The angels sang Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace and good will toward men."

Suddenly I heard a soft twinkling sound, and from his bag he pulled out a BELL,. "Teach the children that as the lost sheep are found by the sound of the bell, it should ring mankind to the fold. The bell symbolizes guidance and return.

Santa looked back and was pleased. He looked back at me and I saw that the twinkle was back in his eyes. He said, "Remember, teach the children the true meaning of Christmas and do not put me in the center, for I am but a humble servant of the One that is, and I bow down to worship him, our LORD, our GOD."
