To be totally blunt, Christmas in July is not supposed to be for normal people. That sounds so harsh, but it's true. Christmas in July was originally the time when craft stores would begin putting their Christmas kits/themed items out, symbolizing that it was time for the Crafters - the people who make their gifts and/or decorations - to begin crafting. But then the rest of the world got a hold of it and stores said "Hey, we can promote this, make some extra cash! Why not?" and it's totally out of control now.
As for why it's the day after Halloween for most stores... Well, honestly, what do you DO on Thanksgiving? There aren't many decorations and the only widely held tradition is eat a lot. What would you suggest they put out?

Haha, you are so funny, what are you talking about "the day after halloween"? Christmas stuff is already in the stores here in Texas...but I don't care, I love christmas.
And no, thanksgiving is not a holiday---just kidding, but seriously, what are you going to put as decorations in your house? A giant turkey, some pilgrims and...food???
Just saying

Christmas in July is a community activism program aimed at helping people it has nothing to do with a holiday just helping and the fact that it is called Christmas pretty much says that it is giving something to the needy.

I am a crafter, and I agree that christmas isnt what it used to be, and as the stories go, christmas in july was originally a last wish foundation thing, (for kids with terminal illnesses) and the kid wanted one more christmas, and it was mid-july. and then it became a popular birthday theme for kids with summer birthdays, but I craft most of my gifts in the summer because by time school rolls around I am busy with 893745867862598759 other things to do

LOL Yes. It's because Christmas has become very commercialized, it's mostly about buying the best new product, and gifts, and less about the actual meaning and holiday. I've noticed that too, I am always like "uh it's not even thanksgiving." I think it's disgousting. After thanksgiving, I can understand, because it's the next holiday. PS I love Halloween! :)

Christmas is July is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. It was probably created by retailers to bring in more money during a dry period.
