Hi. I have an eight year old son with autism who has been asking every year for the last two or three years for a guitar and a drum set. We are definitely getting him one or the other but i was considering both. He seems to have this connection to music so i was wondering should I or should i not get him both? anyone have any experience with children/autism/music? I am curious if this is usually something kids with autism like. thanks for your help in advance

I think you should start with a drum set.

It will be easier to learn and play with.

while children wit autism sometimes learn faster in certain areas they also get frustrated easily.

a drum set will allow your child to see immediate results while keeping beat with a song.

The guitar takes a while to learn and there is a lot of frustration involved trying to hit the right key.

what ever you decide I am sure he will love it.

ps. don't forget the tylenol. lol.

uh, i think you should go with the guitar. Get him one that you can control the volume with like an electric one or something cuz my brother has a drum set and he drives us crazy!!

Hmm. First give him one, then next christmas, give him the other.

but before you give him the other thing, see if he uses what you give him this year.
