i was around 5 when my parents told me about santa, i actually found it out on my own during christmas dinner. santa came to drop off gifts and i noticed that santa's shoes looked alot like my uncle jonny's so i blurted out "why is santa wearing uncle jonny's shoes?!) my parents being mortified took me in another room and had the "talk" with me.

i don't really remember this too well but my parents make sure they bring it up every year at christmas time!

This is all so sad. All these stories of disappointed kids. I was never taught that there was a Santa. I knew my gifts came from family and friends. Why do parents lie to children about those things, but then if a child lies to the parents, they are in big trouble. It seems that the grown-ups set a double standard for themselves. And then to believe in Santa and not get what you want or someone else got more even though that child had been naughty all year long, while you had been trying your best to be nice. And they wonder whats wrong with the world today. There's no truth!!!!!

I had a lot of fun researching this historical data and the myths about Santa Claus. My kids are more fascinated by what I found than by the cheap version most parents put on their children. So, to answer your question, they've known the tragic truth about Santa since the first Christmas they can remember.

look, i found out santa wasn't real on my own. I remember that same Christmas (after i found out)i was looking out the window of my parent's fifth floor apartment and realizing just how silly the whole santa thing was. it wasnt tragic at all for me but kinda funny in a way.

oh and youdontrepresentme, you are so right people should build a sort of memorial for that , those poor reindeer and blue whale!

I never actually had that conversation. I figured it out when my last baby-tooth fell out. It was the middle of the night and I washed it and put it under my pillow. In the morning it was still there. I told my mom that the tooth fairy hadn't shown up. My mom reached into her purse, and handed me a few bucks. In that instant I realized what had been happening with the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, and Santa Clause. Of course I didn't say so until after Christmas. I'm not stupid.

My parents never had the "talk" with me, I never did believed in Santa! In fact, I remember going Christmas shopping with my Mom for as long as I can remember! My kids (9 & 6) still believe in those type of things, or if they don't, they do a good job of pretending! One time I forgot to "play" tooth fairy with my son and he was really disappointed, so I called the "elf remmitance center" (who was my sister) and I let them have it!! The money was promtly there the next morning with a formal letter of apoligy signed by the Tooth fairy herself (also my sister!) and my sister later, recevied a gift certificate to a spa from the Tooth Fairy. That was the most expencive tooth I ever bought!

I was nine years old and the way I found out was my mom had gotten my sister a beautiful dress when it was really going to be from Santa and on Christmas I asked my mom what Santa got me and the dress was one of them. I went to my room and cried.

I was 9 yrs. old also, and can still remember how upset I became at my Mother for spoiling all of my "Christmas fun" on that beautiful Christmas morning. I was holding up my new little bettsy wetsy doll, a coloring book and new box crayons exclaiming with "excitement," Look moma! look at what santa brought me!!! she smiled and said, Rita you`re old enough to know now, santa claus is not real,....I`m your santa claus. O` No ! I shouted, why did you have to tell me that? Christmas is no fun now, I said to her,... but you had to find out some day, anyway you`re a big girl now.my mother replied. So that was it, but now I`m glad because, so many parents have let the false beliefs in santa claus blind them, and the children to the true meaning of why we even celebrate Christmas, Now I`m thankful to God that my Mother told me the truth. and I know how to give God thanks for His precious and wonderful gift "JESUS," the gift to all mankind and praise Him for all of His many many blessings to each of us.

I was a little bit older when I actually outright asked, but I pretty damn well knew around that age. Funny thing though, how so many people base their belief in both Santa and God on whether their selfish desires are fulfilled.

I was eight. I cried. I still get all excited inside when I see a man or woman dressed up as Santa. I wish he was really real. Wouldn't it be neat?

I love Christmas I think I'm gonna go Christmas shopping now. LOL

Well, I never got any presents form 'santa claus' except for when I was at my grandma's house and of course I was 8 and was smart enough to know that it didn't make sense on why santa claus sent all of my gifts from him to my grandma's house. same with the tooth fairy, I kept my first tooth under the pilllow for a week, ; never got any money. : (

I was two. It didn't wreck my world and in the years that followed I just had fun writing letters to "Santa Claus" (a.k.a. parents) and they'd always write back! Much better than writing to a Santa who didn't answer, anyway.

I was 8 and it had such an impact on me that I decided not to raise my kids with santa, the tooth fairy, easter bunny or any other big lie parents tell their kids for fun.

I was about 8 & caught my parents delievering me a bike! , but nevr told them till this day ;-),

My children are lucky because we tell them the truth there is no santa claus, though there was a St.Nicholas whom helped people ,but he has died, but the idea of him still lives on... we teach them charity& helping others 365 days a year, not just on holidays. Besides Jesus wasn't born on christmas so why lie about his birth?

I knew - I guess- from about age 6, but it wasn't until I was 10 that I was "let in" to pretend for my younger brothers. It's like I already knew but then I knew for sure.

But once I turned 19, I believed again. He sures seems real to me. Magical things still happen.

wat tragic santa talk? LOL! i was seven or six my brothers told me in a 'ha, ha u didn't know u little dip-$hit' way. But i was sort'ta stuck in the beilieving in santa thing cuz my mom said:

"If u don't belive in Santa, u don't believe in Jesus" which totally screwed me cuz i didn't want Jesus mad at me it was really confusing till i turned eight

i think i was about eight - but I was ready for it - I asked my mom and she told me the truth- this was a lot better than the priest in my town who told his class that Santa had died - he the priest is intherapy now but it is truly sad he ruined Christmas that year for the kids

I think I was about 4 when my brothers and I were showing my parents what we got, and it turned out that I forgot something and my mom told me and from that moment I think I twigged it, of course I told my twin brother and he didn't believe me.
